Day 2. Dubai International Airport 06h20. Thursday 22 May 2014.
From my new favourite toy, the under plane camera, I watched endless sand dunes pass on by (also there was the window, but that is so old technology). We arrived at Dubai very early in the morning and could already feel the heat begin to warm things up. After a very long bus drive to Terminal B, we entered a magnificent airport terminal, one that rivals, if not beats Bulawayo International Terminal hands down. We knew we had a very long time to wait and hoped that we would not go too crazy there. Dubai airport is magnificent. And we only saw one terminal, I believe there are 3. Our flight out to Ahmedabad would only leave at 22.50 that night. We had 16 and a half hours to kill.
Our Dubai home base for the day. Stairs and lifts took up out to view the shops and views.
The first few were OK, we walked around the shops. I took turns to push either Eric or Allan around, so I got to see all the places a few times. Because we were there for longer than 7 hours we each got a complimentary meal voucher from any handful of food outlets around. We bought some small items came back down to our "home-base". We then went up to find coffee, then returned to home-base. We then went to get food, and return to home-base. We tried everything to keep ourselves occupied. The worst was the last 4 hours of waiting, but we survived.
The plane trip to Ahmedabad was a lot shorter and once again we were well looked after. We arrived at around 3.30 in the morning and could feel the heat already. Coming though was no problem, we had to wait a while for our bags, which must have been packed on the plane first. And then to go outside to be met with crowds of people outside and a packed car park full of hooting vehicles. Luckily the hospital sent a driver and thank goodness. The streets were pretty full of vehicles buzzing around and the long trip to hospital was rather action packed at times. The hospital seems quite far from town and you will find it if you go onto Google Maps and type Krishna Shalby Hospital, Ahmedabad or click on this link https://www.google.co.in/maps/place/Krishna+Shalby+Hospital/@23.0223141,72.4480886,2749m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x395e848ac8a7faf3:0x82cde84d06a2babf?hl=en.
Funny enough the surrounding area and route in could be anywhere in Zimbabwe, well from my point of view. We arrived at around 4.30 in the morning and only managed a few hours rest before a barrage of doctors, specialists, nurses, etc came filing in during the day. Poor Eric and Allan had to be tested and x-rayed a few times during the day and up till 11 last night.
Anyway, to cut short. After being prepped last night, Eric and Allan have been wheeled off to surgery at 9.30 this morning and will spend the night ICU under observation.
Allan ready and waiting to be wheeled off.
