One Week Already

Friday 30 May 2014: Local Time 09.41

As of 4.30 this morning we have already been here a week. Signs of cabin fever are slowly creeping in and I think the guys are itching to get out and about. There is still a lot of work to be done and they have to be careful not to overdo it. Eric has already had to have his bandages changed as he popped a stitch and started to bleed. The doctors think it was probably over exuberance in wanting to get around and he started bending his knees too far, too soon.
He has since had his dressing changed again and put on a strict "no exercise" diet, which has left him a little frustrated, but it is working and there are no signs of further bleeding.
Also today is the day he gets his teeth back. It is his old set and the new set should be here in 10 days or so. So expect some pictures again. I did not take any out of vanity for Eric's sake.
Allan is doing better and in fact sometimes cannot stop talking. He wants to walk and do his exercises, I think he is feeling the benefits of regular work. The doctors are stressing that the most important thing to healing is eating their food. For a few days after the ops, it was like dealing with 2 little kids and forcing them to eat their food. Now, with exception to "no teeth" Eric, all plates are cleaned. Sometimes to the point where the kitchen staff need not even wash them because they are so clean.
I don't know how much longer we are going to stay in this room, I assume we will be moved soon to make way for more patients. It is quite amazing here how many people come in for operations. Often you don't know if anyone is here until you bump into them in the corridors. With all the service and attention we get from the staff, you sometimes feel like you are the only ones in the entire hospital.
We are really being treated well. Well done Shalby!
